Belarus opposition leader calls on EU not to recognise 'fraudulent' elections
Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, the woman heading up Belarus's opposition movement, is appealing to EU leaders to disregard the results of the election on 9 August, calling them fraudulent. In the statement issued from Lithuania, where she is currently exiled, Tikhanovskaya said: 'I call on you to support the awakening of Belarus' and said the election results were falsified and that protesters had been beaten and tortured
